| Duties: Sun Media is seeking an experienced multimedia graphic designer who is prepared to take our content to the next level in the digital evolution. Reporting to the General Manager of Online Editorial, the successful candidate will have a proven track record of innovation in a deadline-driven environment. They will act as the lead multimedia graphic designer, brainstorming and collaborating with editorial teams on breaking news, features and major projects. Understanding the business needs, envisioning a creative concept and bringing it to life quickly will be critical to success. Responsibilities: • Envision, create and execute editorial design initiatives. • Actively participate in brainstorming and planning (tactical and strategic) sessions as required to support editorial development. • Work collaboratively all editorial teams. • Remain current on industry best practices, new and emerging marketing design principles and tactics. • Other related activities as required. |
| Qualifications: Qualifications include: • Thorough knowledge of graphic design best practices. • Strong working knowledge of web design. • Experience using HTML, XML, JavaScript, PHP, CSS and Flash is an asset. • Proficient in design software: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat CS4 Professional, Dreamweaver, Flash, CorelDraw, QuarkXPress and Microsoft Office • Competent on both PC and Mac platforms. • A self-starter with strong organization, scheduling and time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines. |

| Duties: The Sudbury Star is seeking an experienced journalist for the position of News Editor to oversee production of The Star, and pagination of the North Bay Nugget, the Sault Star and the Timmins Daily Press. The Sudbury Star publishes six days a week and enjoys a leadership role in the community as the newspaper of record in Greater Sudbury. The Star has emerged as one of the premier community daily newspapers in the province both in print and on the web, winning multiple Ontario Newspaper Awards and hosting a leading website. As the News Editor on the night desk you will: · Lead a talented night desk as you produce a newspaper for a vibrant city of 160,000 people that has 18 high schools, two colleges, a university, a regional teaching hospital, an OHL team and a professional theatre. We are a mining community with a diverse economic base. · Co-operate with editors at client newspapers to ensure they are provided with excellent publications. · Be a valued member of The Star's senior management team and participate actively in determining the editorial vision and overall direction of the newspaper. · Work with reporters and editors to ensure superior copy, write concise headlines and lay out numerous pages under tight deadlines. · Use your own initiative to tackle challenges that arise in the evening. You will be expected to hit the many curve balls you will face out of the park. · Oversee our highly popular website at night to ensure breaking news is provided promptly. |
